BREMERTON, WA— The Northwest Premier League announces that Twin City Union goalkeeper Sunny DeBoer (St. Martin’s) is this week’s NWPL Player of the Week. DeBoer will receive a 2016 NWPL league collector’s scarf in honor of her accomplishment.
Sunny DeBoer and the Union shut out South Sound FC last weekend in a 0-0 draw at Tiger Stadium in Centralia. Praise for her performance came from both sides of the pitch, including from opposing head coach Jill Green.
“Sunny made at least three huge saves for them,” says the South Sound coach. When the final whistle blew the Union had picked up another point and in the process knocked the Shock out of first place.
The Union Twitter page tells part of the story:
Sunny plays her college soccer for Lacey’s St. Martin’s University Saints. She’s staying local by playing for the NWPL Union out of Chehalis / Centralia. DeBoer is from Idaho.
In 2014 Sunny was featured in this Thurston Talk article. “I wouldn’t know what to do with myself without soccer,” she says at one point in the story.
Sunny is the first goalkeeper to ever earn the POTW nod. She’s also the second straight player to take the honors from the Union. Last week Whitney Lowe was in the spotlight.
