SPOKANE, WA— Angela Celedon went east to Spokane with the rest of her Seattle Stars teammates this weekend. Her journey took a different course near halftime of the Stars’ Northwest Premier League match at Whitworth College against the Spokane Shadow.

It’s an unsettling experience for players, coaches, everyone at a match when I player goes down and medical assistance is required. Celedon blacked  out after a collision that required immediate care.

No flag to salute? Teams turn to goalkeeper’s America-themed gloves

NWPL Primary CrestBREMERTON, WA— Sometimes it’s the little things that become big memories at a soccer match. On Saturday afternoon in Bremerton the Olympic Force hosted Twin City Union in a Northwest Premier League soccer match at Gordon Field.

Everyone was in place and standing as the National Anthem was ready to play. One big problem – Oh say can you see? There was no American flag to be seen. Apparently Kitsap County Parks had taken down the one that usually stays flying on the edge of the Fairgrounds.

Quick thinking by Twin City Union goalkeeper Emily Sorenson (North Thurston High School / Centralia College) saved the moment and gave us that “little thing” that will last in the memory. She realized she was wearing stars and stripes on her West Coast “Quanton Freedom” gloves – that feature an American flag motif. She went to the center circle and raised her hands…
