BREMERTON, WA— The Northwest Premier League today announces that two players from the Washington Timbers have been selected as NWPL Players of the Week for June 25, 2017 after the Timbers won two matches over the weekend and clinched a playoff spot.
MILLA BENEDETTI (OFFENSE) – Washington Timbers
MAGGIE HIGGINS (DEFENSE) – Washington Timbers
The Washington Timbers won their matches over the June 24-25 weekend with a 5-0 victory at Olympic Force and a 2-1 victory over WPSS Shock at Harmony Sports Complex.
Milla Benedetti scored three goals over the two matches. “Milla is a very deceptive attacker,” says Timbers Head Coach Kat Tarr. “She is very quick, but her moves and ball manipulation are top notch. We had two big games this weekend and Milla found the back of the net three times. Her ability to play forward, wide and center midfield has really helped our attack and it is a pleasure to coach such a selfless player that also has a number of assists.”
The Timbers gave up just one goal in the two wins. Goalkeeper Maggie Higgins saw action in the matches, making a crucial save against WPSS. “Maggie is one of the youngest players on the squad (senior in high school), but her leadership in the back line shows more maturity,” says Tarr. “Maggie had a big save on Sunday against a WPSS Shock team that had some amazingly athletic attacking players. A midfielder broke through the midfield and hit a shot outside of the 18 that had the crowd gasping, but Maggie reached up to the crossbar and flicked the ball over with her fingertips. She is also not afraid to play with her feet and adds another element of possession out of the back.”
