North Central Washington Alliance FC came over to Bremerton on Sunday to face the Olympic Force in a match that Olympic had to win to make the 2017 NWPL playoffs. The Wenatchee-based club had not won a match all season, but they left with a sense of accomplishment and feelings of pride and joy after they scored a 2-1 win thanks to a brace from midfielder Katie Michkiosky (Northwest University).

ncw-alliance-fc_logo_facebook-profile-1“Katie’s performance on Sunday summed up who she is as a player. Dominant presence in the central midfield and leadership to her surroundings!” says Alliance Head Coach Jamie Richards. “Being a captain for the Alliance she embraces the honor as the heart of the team. Sunday she showed patience and an IQ on the pitch which helped her with great timing in the finishing third. Her understanding and support of the build up was brilliant. Well done Katie!”

Michkiosky gave Alliance a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute and then scored the winner in the 89th when she trailed a break, found the right spot in the middle of the box, and hammered home a shot from close range.

MORGAN TRESER (DEFENSE) – Seattle Stars FC

2017_Stars_clearThe Seattle Stars knew they needed a win to lock up the regular season title and home pitch throughout the upcoming NWPL playoffs. The club that stood in their way was Washington Timbers, whose fine season saw them finish 3rd and in the playoffs. After an early Stars goal it was hang-on time, and central defender Morgan Treser (Morehead State) helped her club do just that in a 1-0 win. She did it despite feeling under the weather.

“Morgan played while she was sick Saturday against Washington Timbers,” says Stars Head Coach Chris Wells. “In the last 10 minutes, we were out of subs and she wanted one, but Morgan pushed through it to help us maintain the one goal lead. With us getting the goal in the 4th minute, it was 86 minutes of hold on and she was the key for us doing so.”
