BREMERTON, WA—The Northwest Premier League today announces that Ellie Boon of the Washington Timbers and Tia Carrillo of Fuerza FC are the NWPL Players of the Week for their performances in the first round of the 2017 playoffs.
ELLIE BOON (OFFENSE) – Washington Timbers
Ellie Boon came up big in a big match on Saturday as the first-year Washington Timbers scored a quarterfinal playoff victory over Yakima United at Harmony Sports Complex in Vancouver. She notched a goal and an assist for the Timbers.
“Ellie is tenacious, hard working and is an unbelievable player,” says Timbers Head Coach Kat Tarr. “Everything she does is with passion and her vision on the field allows for our team to play at a very high tempo in the middle of the pitch. Her goal against Yakima came from a run through the midfield into the attack, where she received the ball on the shoulder of the center back and was able to dribble through and finish against Yakima’s keeper.”
TIA CARRILLO (DEFENSE) – Fuerza FC
The playoffs are a whole new season but Tia Carrillo didn’t miss a beat from the solid play that got her Fuerza FC team into the postseason. She clogged up the middle on Saturday at Goddard Stadium as Fuerza shut out Washington Premier South Sound in the NWPL quarterfinals.
“Tia, who has conventionally played a midfield role in her soccer career got moved to defense early this season,” says Fuerza FC’s Matt Neel. “Her veteran presence and calm under pressure have solidified the back line with her technical ability allowing us opportunities to effectively build the attack through the midfield. Tia’s work on Saturday was instrumental in Fuerza’s shut out victory and she has been an unspoken hero for this team all season.”
