NWPL Scoreboard: Washington Premier, Seattle Stars earn shut out victories

The third week of play in the Northwest Premier League (NWPL) kicked off on Saturday May 19 with two clubs earning shut out wins.

Twin City Union 0-3 Washington Premier FC

CENTRALIA, WA—Washington Premier FC (1-1-1) drove down I-5 and took on the Twin City Union (0-2-1) on Saturday May 19 at Tiger Stadium. Amanda Rickey scored twice to lead the visitors in their 3-0 win, WPFC’s first of the season.

All of the goals came in the second half. Rickey scored the winner in the 57th off of an assist from Maria Reyes.  It was 2-0 for WPFC in the 67th when Whitney Peterson converted on an assist from Angela Celedon. Rickey got her brace and put the match out of reach in the 73rd minute when she scored off of an assist from Peterson. Rian Kasner got the shut out for WPFC.

Seattle Stars  2-0 Washington Timbers

TUKWILA, WA— It was a rematch of the 2017 Final as Seattle Stars (2-0-0) hosted the Washington Timbers (2-1-0) at Starfire Sports Complex on Saturday. That 2017 Final result was a 2-1 win for the Timbers. This time the Stars used two first half goals to claim all the points.

Maddie Cooley made it 1-0 Stars in the 23rd minute when she scored off of an assist from Ariela Lewis. It was 2-0 Seattle in the 44th when Lewis turned scorer herself thanks to an assist from Hannah Jenkins.

Both sides  had chances in the second half but the Seattle defense held the lead and delivered the shut out for goalkeeper Ashley Homer.

Shut out: Ashley Homer.
