Hello Oregon: Capital FC off to winning start in NWPL

When the Northwest Premier League (NWPL) accepted the application of Capital FC to join the league it was a sort of historic moment: the first-ever club in the league from the state of Oregon. That club is unbeaten after 3 matches.

Capital FC’s connections to the women’s soccer program at Salem’s Corban University are paying off so far for the club in their debut season in the NWPL. They are 3-0-0 with a big home match coming up this Saturday against 2017 NWPL Champions Washington Timbers. Head Coach Likius Hafeni has his team ready to compete and he knows many of  his players quite well – he sees them in the fall at his main gig at Corban.

One of his main threats is Annouscka Kordom, who has scored 2 goals for CFC so far this year. She was named NWPL #OurTime Offensive Player of the Week for May 6.

Hafeni also brought in dynamic attacker Laadi Issaka (Mississippi Valley State). Issaka scored a hat trick to raise her league total to 4 goals and was named Offensive POTW on May 13.

Now Capital FC hopes to continue their momentum on Saturday in Salem in what looks on paper to be their toughest challenge so far.
