Three teams have staked a claim at the top of the Northwest Premier League standings and the Offensive and Defensive Players Of the Week for week five have been instrumental in getting their teams to that point. This week, club operators and coaches honor a top offensive threat from Capital FC and one of the best goalkeepers this season.
Offensive: With two goals including the equalizer and what proved to be the game winner in Capital FC Atletica’s 4-1 win over the Oly-Pen Force on Saturday, Whitney Pitalo earned the week five offensive award. The University of Southern California alum and Salem native also added an assist to keep Capital FC undefeated at 5-0-0, just two goals behind the Seattle Stars, who are also 5-0-0. Pitalo is the founder of the Capital FC NWPL squad and manages the team.
Defensive: Washington Premier’s Kyla Carter has had a fantastic season registering two shutouts this season so far and has her squad solidly in third place. On Sunday, Seattle scored three times on her in their 3-0 win but the Highline CC and Evergreen State product still impressed stopping a handful of one vs. one opportunities, making numerous diving saves and playing strong on set pieces to earn the award.
Offensive: Alyssa Andrews (WA Premier)
Defensive: Emily Sorenson (Twin City Union), Makenzie Pineda (Capital FC Atletica)
