Week 8 Recap: Snohomish, Oly Town Take Wins To Setup Playoff Chase

Snohomish County 9, Whatcom Waves 4

Jordyn Bartelson registered a hat trick and Chalise Baysa picked up a pair of goals to lead Snohomish County to a 9-4 win over the Whatcom Waves on Saturday night. The win moved the Steelheads to 4-1-1 this season, sitting in second place with 13 points with two games left to go, including a week nine matchup against the Oly Town Artesians in Olympia.

The two teams went into halftime all tied up at 2-2, but Snohomish rattled off three early third quarter goals, including Bartelson’s second goal, and then exploded for four goals in the fourth quarter while holding the Waves to just a pair of goals by Emily Webster, who registered all four of Whatcom’s goals.

Snohomish travels to Olympia to face the Artesians next weekend and then faces the first place Tacoma Galaxy in week 10.

Oly Town Artesians 12, Oly-Pen Force 7

The Oly-Pen Force jumped out to a 4-3 halftime lead before league leading goal scorer Kailey Utley and the Oly Town Artesians offense exploded for six goals in the third quarter to remain in the race for the championship game with a 12-7 road win on Saturday. The win moved Oly Town to 4-3-0 this season with just one game remaining, a win or you are out contest against Snohomish County next Saturday night in Olympia.

The Artesians scored four straight goals after the halftime break including two of Utley’s four goals to take a 7-4 lead. The Force made it a two goal game with 2:23 left in the third, but that was as close as it would get with the Artesians outscoring the Force 5-2 the rest of the way. Utley now has 22 goals this season and Erin Danielson scored twice in the win.

The Force got goals from seven different players but the loss eliminated them from championship game contention.

Oly Town has just one game remaining, next weekend against the second place Snohomish County. They must win, or the Steelheads claim a spot in the championship game. If they win, they will wait until week 10 and hope that Snohomish cannot upset the Galaxy in the final regular season game.
