Snohomish County and Tacoma Continue Winning Ways

Peyton Chick scored a hat trick including two goals in a five goal fourth quarter that cinched the 9-3 Snohomish County victory over Bellingham United on their home field on Saturday night. Kayla Soderstrom added a brace for the Steelheads in the win.

Soderstrom opened the scoring with two goals in the first quarter and the first 15 minutes came to an end with Snohomish up 2-0. Chick registered her first tally of the night midway through the second quarter to take a 3-0 lead before Emily Webster got Bellingham on the board with 4:27 left in the half. After Snohomish took a 4-1 lead, Bellingham cut the Steelhead lead back to two goals and the half came to a close with the Steelheads up 4-2.

The two teams battled to a scoreless third quarter but Bellingham then exploded in the fourth quarter beginning with M’ily Morton’s goal at the 14:42 mark, the first of five goals that sealed the win. The victory clinched a spot in the championship game for Snohomish County with two regular season games left to play. They will look to defend their title in early March.

Lily Dose scored twice to lead the way for the Tacoma Galaxy in their 6-1 win over the Oly-Pen Force on the road at the Bremerton Sports Center on Saturday night.

Dose opened the scoring with the only goal of the first half and then finished the game with her second with just 32.1 seconds left to play. Kya Scott made it a 2-0 game early in the second quarter but the Force cut it to a one goal game on Amira Lyons’ strike with 29.5 seconds left in the first half and the two teams went to the break separated by just one goal, 2-1.

It was all Galaxy after that with Arica Slawson, Kayley Cruz and Julia Causbie each scoring in the third quarter to open up a 5-1 lead. Tacoma did not allow another goal the rest of the way and moved to 3-1 this season with the 6-1 victory.
